Chancellor’s Reception Recap

On May 31, 2022, Saint Mary’s University welcomed principle and major gift donors to the Chancellor’s Reception, hosted by Chancellor Michael Durland BComm’87 DComm’10. A hybrid event held in the Loyola Conference Hall and on Zoom, it was the first opportunity since the pandemic began to gather with supporters to thank them for their kindness and generosity toward the university, our students, faculty and staff.

President Robert Summerby-Murray provided updates about our recent Spring Convocation, construction progress on the Sobeys Hub and the Loyola Residence solar panel project, as well as announcing that Chancellor Durland has agreed to serve as Chair of the university’s historic $100-million A World Without Limits fundraising campaign. Guests also heard from Salma Maliha Maisha, a fourth-year Marketing major, who spoke of the life-changing impact of receiving a donor-funded scholarship, while astronomy professor Dr. Robert Thacker kept the festivities moving as MC and host of a SMU version of the gameshow Jeopardy!
