Join us in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Burke-Gaffney Observatory with Dr. Marcin Sawicki, Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in Astronomy, Faculty of Science. Dr. Marcin Sawicki will discuss his research on the James Webb Telescope and the Astronomy program at Saint Mary’s University. A reception and group tours of the observatory will follow (weather permitting).
Dr. Marcin Sawicki has been a member of the science team responsible for the Canadian contribution to the James Webb Telescope from early in the telescope’s development. The team’s made-in-Canada Near Infrared Imager and Slitless Spectrograph (NIRISS) instrument is a key part of the telescope.
