About the Coronation Medal

The King Charles III Coronation Medal was established to mark the 2023 Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III It will be awarded to 30,000 individuals across Canada, including 4,000 members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). The medal program is administered by the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General, with nominations provided by a list of partner organizations.

The Canadian Heraldic Authority designed the medal, which was approved by the King himself and manufactured by the Royal Canadian Mint. The medal’s reverse side portrays the Royal Cypher (the monogram surmounted by the Canadian Royal Crown), over the Canadian Coronation emblem. The medal’s sides are inscribed with the date of the Coronation and “VIVAT REX” (“long live The King”). It is attached to a ribbon in dark blue, red and white, identical to the United Kingdom’s Coronation Medal ribbon.
