SMU in Action: Black Lives Matter Nova Scotia

  • Webinar Halifax, NS Canada (map)

We are excited to also introduce the new SMU in Action virtual engagement series! Throughout the year, we will be hosting monthly webinars featuring Santamarians tackling community issues, their impacts, and how to take action moving forward. Attending and engaging during SMU in Action webinars will allow you to gain Husky Credits, with prizes offered at the end of the Winter semester! Keep an eye out for more information about both the Husky Credits and SMU in Action series soon.

Join us Thursday, October 1st at 6PM (ADT) for our first SMU in Action webinar, part of our Homecoming SMU After Hours series, where we will discuss the Black Lives Matter movement, with a special focus on community supports and activism taking place in Nova Scotia.

About the Webinar

The event will feature local activists and members of the SMU community, including Trayvone Clayton (SMU student & co-founder of Game Changers 902), Andre Anderson (SMU student and creator of the Building Black Opportunities and Leadership Development [BOLD] fundraiser), and Delvina Bernard BComm'82 (SMU PhD candidate, founding member of Four the Moment, Board Director, Oxfam Canada, and Co-Editor Africentric Learning Institute (ALI) Journal).

The panel will be moderated by Dr. Rachel Zellars, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Justice & Community Studies, who helped launch the Black Lives Matter Solidarity Fund Nova Scotia earlier this year, and recently launched the African Nova Scotian Freedom School.

The webinar is free to attend.

Please note that a link to the webinar will be provided the day before the event.
